After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot named Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the animals on the island and cares for an orphaned baby goose. Lupita Nyong'o joins writer-director Chris Sanders to discuss notable credits and their time together making The Wild Robot. According to author Peter Brown, the inspiration for "The Wild Robot" came from a sketch he made of a robot in a tree. He then asked the question, "What would an intelligent robot do in the wild?" Look, my expectations were already pretty high. This was one of my most anticipated movies of the year ever since I saw the first teaser and then avoided the others to be spoiled. But still, I can't believe I'm about to say this, but this might actually be the best animated film in DreamWorks history. Seriously, seeing is believing. This is seriously one of the most visually gorgeous animated films ever made. It's simply stunning from start to finish, full of wonder and unparalleled beauty that fills the screen with color and life. It really is like a Studio Ghibli animation made from Monet's paintings, and there are times when it's hard to even process everything they have to show you. It's certainly the most impactful work of animation I've seen since the first "Spider-Verse" and an evolution of what the studio did with "The Bad Guys" and "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish", and if you hesitate, it's even more beautiful than all of them. I can only imagine what a beauty like this must look like on an IMAX screen and maybe even in 3D, and I'll definitely go after that experience when it's officially released, but even in a regular XD theater it was an incredible spectacle that took my breath away with every frame. The story itself is very simple in concept and essence, and if there's one thing that could lead some people to criticize the film, it would probably be for that. But I don't see why anyone would do that because it executes everything it wants to do in an exquisite and irresistible way. I think people forget that even narratives as simple as this one also require a lot of effort to work, and this film makes it seem easy because it doesn't even have to do much and it wins you over right away. It's an extremely moving journey from start to finish and is full of beautiful themes and endearing and lovable characters that deserve to be remembered. The pace is calm and knows how to take its time with the necessary patience, the action is measured but electrifying when it happens, and the emotional moments hit hard but never with forced appeal, but rather because they win you over through everything they have triumphantly built. The humor and melodrama are balanced in the right measure, although it is much more focused on the dramatic side, but it is one of those that simply warms the heart in a very cozy and touching way.
