Sawyer's character was originally intended to be an older, more elegant, suit-wearing city slicker from Buffalo, New York. But when Josh Holloway forgot a line in his audition and ended up kicking his chair in frustration and cursing loudly, the writers liked his style and decided to write Sawyer as a more southern, darker drifter. Jin and Sun are married and have the last name "Kwon," which becomes a major plot point in the final season.
