In the timeless town of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family navigate love, oblivion, and the inevitability of their past and destiny. This is Netflix’s most expensive project in Latin America to date, with the participation of Colombian groups and indigenous communities constructing the series’ props and sets. 100 Years of Soledad is one of the greatest literary peaks in Spanish. Its style is unparalleled, and its scope is beyond imagination. Its characters are so well-drawn that any screenwriter would have no problem writing them for the screen. However, an apparently insurmountable problem in adapting the novel was its length. Compressing a hundred years of family and nation history was an impossible task. Almost 60 years after its publication, the novel has found a cinematic home on Netflix. Only streaming can do it justice, and the first 2 episodes are truly promising. Excellent photography, art direction, and respect for the characters. The voice is essential to the amazing prose of García Márquez that emerges from time to time. The plot unfolds smoothly with richness and depth. I love it, and I was a little skeptical that GGM's magical world could be translated to the screen. Wall, so far it's the success of my book..
